Hi,
I signed up for ProZ a while ago but haven't gotten any business from it.
I get messages with good projects, but they only want to pay with a bank-certified cheque.

What am I missing? Why not PayPal or credit card or Upwork direct?
Since they all sound similar I believe it's a scam.
How are you guys handling this?

It's a classic scam. Try to search the forums for 'check scam' / 'cheque scam'.

To be ignored.

Overpayment scam Sep 2, 2024

I have a collection of three fake "certified bank checks" sent to me by FedEx when I had a little fun with the scammers.
Ignore them.

Yes, it is a scam, usual signs:
- personal client (or fake org)
- gmai
- long time for translation
- generous payment
- overpayment and request to return part of pay
I received several times the same article for translation (see attached file)

OMG, I have LITERALLY (in its correct sense) come here for this issue as I am dealing with such an email enquiry as we speak, and this topic was the first one up on the forum. That pretty much confirms what I was suspecting.
