You probably did so in good faith (it kinda makes sense, after all), but Verbis does have a point: ProZ.com forum rules say that English should be used in the English forums and Chinese used in the Chinese forums. https://www.proz.com/forum/chinese-34.html [Edited at 2022-03-08 14:02 GMT]

I don't think this is the place to judge a professional's language level. Most translators set a target of 2000 words a day so they have a lot of time to check back and forth.

I can't think of a better place, if you really do insist on translating into English. Alternatively, you could do a few test translations for agencies, and see what feedback they give you, although you should understand that when agencies receive test translations they often send them out to people like me and pay me for my for comments. That is one of the services that professional translators working into their native language can and often do provide. If I were you I would get any tests checked over prior to submission, to avoid disappointment.

[Edited at 2022-03-08 12:44 GMT] So this is specifically for me? OMG, what an honor! But I really don't know how to deal with such a pathetic compatriot suffering from paranoia like you are. Good luck and my sympathy for your family and friends. And DO NOT compare yourself to HUAWEI! It makes good quality products, do you?

People who post on the forums should not be judged for the quality of their writing on the forum, unless they request it. I find it very rude if people comment on the way someone writes something. But sometimes the topic does lend itself to some evaluation. In this case, you posted about getting negative feedback, so it is fair for us to give you free, unsolicited critique of your strengths and weaknesses are. I realise that you translate mostly into Chinese and that English is not your first language (and that you translate into English only on rare occasions), so we be careful to judge your expertise based on how you write in the forum. But we do have access to professional material that you have written (e.g. your résumé). And some things are universal (precision, for example).

But no sign of improvement in English for sure. Revelations for Dear Mr Cynical: 1. Grow up, be an adult. 2. Work hard or leave. 3. You don't speak for Chinese or ZH translators. 4. You don't earn the respect of others by your age, but professionalism, politeness, attitude and else. But I saw none of those qualities from your replies. I did struggle for a while before I decided to "dig" you out regardless of all those oriental "wisdom" from Confusius. And for the record, I can read Chinese. I am able to tell what you tried to imply between the lines. You'd better put aside your psuedo-patriotism here and elsewhere. It's not going to do any good for you.
