Some feedbacks already Mar 7, 2022

I know my English level should be raised and CV will be revamped. More reading and get more specialized, which are what I'm doing now.

Well, I can assure you that unjustified negative feedback and having one's translations destroyed by a poor quality proofreader is all part of the business...

I can easily assure you that you're slandering and scheming for unknown reasons.

Another skill that is useful for a translator to have is to have a thick skin and not to have a chip on the shoulder. Clients respond best if they are treated with courtesy. Always assume good faith, is the best policy in business.

The same here. I think even Samuel Beckett would have been jealous after reading this thread;).

why "we" not "you"? Are you conspiring sth? Mar 8, 2022

And it doesn't make your English better than me. I may misinterpret but that's the part of language.

It's a common practice to ONLY translate into your native language in MOST places in the world.
When people don't understand why, they ask questions.
This is a place for discussion. I think that you overacted.
You may be an experienced translator, but I'm pretty sure that you are new to this forum.
Keep your mind open or at least try as hard as u can, though some may not be as friendly as you think.
Some unbiased opinions are found in this thread no matter what...... See more

Try your humor, it works for me.

And for the record, a lot of VMs have been long complaining about the lack of qualified translators working from Chinese into other languages.
Same for the whole CCJK markets & Arabic & rarer pairs.

Most translators working in ZH>EN are actually native Chinese living in a foreign land.
No matter how idiomatic their translations are, it doesn't change the fact that they are non-natives.

A good way to improve your English Mar 8, 2022

is to read books in English, preferably written by native speakers.

I would suggest reading on topics that are relevant to your specialisation as a translator would be a better time investment than otherwise.

There is a new trend now for books and scientific papers to be published in open regime, so free to read in digital form. Even prestigious publishing houses offer such books.

For business success, other elements might be required as well:
• business-like presentation;
• a professional photo;
• a professional email;
etc.

Tip:
Wordpress, in their most basic paid plan offer a wonderful easy-to-use email facility, for no additional cost. It is a limited email service (just forwarding), but it allows one to have an email address on the domain of choice, subject to availability and subsequent payment.
However, such a choice - which is a smart choice, in my humble opinion - needs careful consideration before commitment.

Google Translate says:
'Is it so interesting?

Who am I offending? They are all making money to eat, do you have a conscience?'

(Credit to Samuel M. who, as far as I am aware, started the 'GT helpline' whenever foreign languages appear in the English forum pages.)

And that is the point I was making when I said "you don't know what you don't know". You obviously think your English is good. If I were proofing it I would have to be on the phone to you every other sentence to ask you what you were trying to say. This is not a personal criticism. You have the level you have.
If you tell potential clients that you need a proofreader to work on your text before submission that is not a strong selling point. It shows that you single yourself out from among the many translators working in the pair as someone whose language skills (Chinese>English) are not up to the task.
Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. If not, you will damage your professional reputation sooner or later.
