This forum topic is for the discussion of the poll question "Considering your current client list, how many did you pitch to vs. those who found you?".
They all came to me, some through Proz, most of them through recommendation (another client or a professional peer). I have been working with the same client base for some time, one of them for over 20 years.

The vast majority came to me, via Proz.com a long time ago, due to recommendations or project managers moving from one agency to another.

Most found us through various provider profiles on service provider portals, including ProZ, and our websites. One real big fish (an authority at the national level) we caught through pitching. Quite a few came to us through referrals from fellow translators.

I've never had much success sending applications anywhere, even Proz has not been generous.
Most of my clients come from the grapevine, usually recommended by translators of other language pairs.
My oldest client came via an English friend who had been offered the job but preferred teaching, that was in 1987.

I don’t really keep track of that.
Whether clients find me or I contact them doesn’t matter much in the end.
What counts is keeping the good ones through reliable, high-quality work.
