This is, of course, true - but the results are very enlightening or even astonishing. Who would have thought that so many translators are using MT and/or AI tools for their work? Provided work doesn't equal business-related things like Social Media etc., but only translation & related services.
It's also not very clear if CAT tools are included in "MT tools" or not.

A CAT tool is not an MT tool.

C'mon, guys... 'professional work' is awesome. This poll sounds like an Inspector Clouseau investigation.

Yeah, well, thanks for the correction - however, there have been discussions here on ProZ.com and on other sites where people were not so sure about this, so we also cannot be sure how respondents actually define "MT tools" (besides the fact that CAT tools integrate machine translation)

And MT is not necessarily the same as an AI chatbot. The best MT tools are specifically trained neural engines (I know I repeat myself on this again and again, but it's a fact).

Word also integrates machine translation. Does that make it an MT tool?

I used NMT as resource in an assignment for SDL, the publisher of Trados Studio. I found that it had a better yield than "plain vanilla" MT. That's fine, as long as the linguist controls the resource, and not the other way about. The comments by colleagues who were "onboarded" for MTPE comfort my opinion that the MTPE type of assignment should be avoided: they report that the rates are slender, the lead times allowed are too short for a satisfactory translation result, and they could often have achieved a professional-quality target draft by simply translating from scratch.
I also deprecate target-language-only post-editing, other than for "polissage" of a non-native speaker's draft in the target language. The linguist must always have sight of the source.
I fear that the "gold rush" of many work providers over-reliant on MT and AI may prove a bubble, and that there may be a crash or more likely a series of crashes towards a shakeout.
I take this opportunity of referring you to the SFT position paper on AI and MT, reflecting a survey of its members on the subject. Click the following link - I've tested it:

I find reports that in many cases, it's the other way about. As I have commented in other posts and threads, the linguist should control the technology, not be controlled by it. MT and AI should be used as a resource, and not be a constraint.
I reiterate here the tested link to the SFT position paper on AI and MT:

What does "in your professional work" mean? I guess it needs to be made more specific.
I know a translator who has a part time job as a home delivered meal driver/dasher. Shouldn't that job be considered as his professional work as well? He certainly wouldn't need MT tools while delivering meals.
