And I really feel like quitting my job to start doing something else, so I'll probably write the HR people about it before my vacation is over. There is a small chance the market will lose me for good. It won't be too sad, the market, because it has many a new great tool

Upcoming: a 3-day Rome trip with my eldest son (he was a Greek-Latin secondary school student, and so was I) for his 18th birthday. Keywords: wine, food and culture. Looking forward to finally discover the Eternal City in real life.

I took advantage of the June holidays in my country, one of which fell on my birthday this year. I spent a week with my daughters and one of my granddaughters at Bom Sucesso beach, next to Óbidos Lagoon. Nothing but rest, walks and good food! I will take one or more days here and there until the end of this year (work permitting)...

I would like to have some time at the end of the year to go to the beach and enjoy reading a lot of books that people have given me and I have bought during the year.

We took 3 days in Genoa in July, then 3 days in Vienna in August.
I don't consider them my proper yearly holidays which will involve driving to Scotland and back, probably in October. I would have gone earlier, but had to renew my passport and it took far too long!

2 weeks in St. Petersburg in May, recent 5-day family getaway on the Florida beach, 3 days in New York for my best friend's 70th birthday in October, and Africa in November (keeping my fingers crossed!) And it's my break week next week, not looking forward to all the house chores but I'm cornered, procrastinated for too long and the place has been neglected for a while:-(.

Since I'm no longer a full-time freelance translator, we could afford a trip to southern Sweden this year, including a visit of one of the numerous systembolagets there. Beaches at the Baltic Sea with no jelly fish and forests without the usual clouds of gnats as they are typical of the north of Scandinavia.

I'm really looking forward to my upcoming vacation, an extended journey to Japan.
Since life is so fragile and unpredictable, you never know how long you'll have to enjoy these experiences, or how long international travel will remain allowed and affordable (thanks to the strong Euro, despite the lackluster economy)...

Who will the good citizens of Kiel call when they encounter plumbing issues in your absence?
I'd leave a capable team back at home instead of risk losing business.

Driving to Scotland? Oh my... I'll be flying to the "homeland" in February next year. Always mixed feelings, but I end up having a good laugh!

They 'll roll the red carpet anyway to me, no matter whether I'm very late (even days or weeks), naughty or too expensive. Anyone here with a light technical background living close to the southern rim of Hamburg interested in a job 4/7 with 10 h/day max? At start you will get a bonus of € 2,000, together with 30 days holiday. No working on Christmas day, Eastern and/or the German National Day.
