Can someone please tell me which one is the most used software for opening mpeg files? (the source format is video in mpeg format)

if you only mean program to play the files, you can try the free windows media player classic along with the codec, i.e. k lite mega codec here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm
or vlc, here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
