Summary:With the advent of self-publishing platforms―such as Lulu.com and CreateSpace.com for print-on-demand (POD) books and Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing and Smashwords for digital formats―authors have been cutting the middlemen (agents and publishers) out of the equation. Writers can now offer their books directly to the audience, tapping into the power of social media to face fierce criticism or rest on their laurels after attracting a loyal fan base. Considering this shift in the publishing paradigm, the role of book translators has changed as well. Instead of having to wait for a project to be assigned by a publisher, we now have the alternative of creating a partnership with these self-published authors and bring their books to international audiences.
Description
In this one-hour webinar, we will discuss the relationship between translators and self-published authors and the role of language professionals in the new publishing age, when translators are
no longer one part of the puzzle put together by large publishing companies, but an important partner in independent literary translation efforts.
