2020 was exceptionally positive. I expected it to be a disaster, because of the crisis, and I had two of the worst months in my history, in July and August. However, the rest of the year was fantastic, way beyond the expected, with growth in all numbers against the previous years. As 2021 began, these trends prevailed, and since I don't expect to have such a bad July/August period again, it seems this year will be even better than 2020, for sure. | | | But I thought things were so bad | May 10, 2021 |

Over the next few months, I'm planning to do an entire revamp of my website, CVs, profile bios, etc. with the goal of transitioning from agencies to direct clients over the coming years. So as far as this question is concerned, as the year progresses, I should have more income but fewer clients. I never have and never will work for peanuts (hopefully, life circumstances will never force me to consider this), but the further my freelancing career progresses, the more I realize I could be earning ... So as far as this question is concerned, as the year progresses, I should have more income but fewer clients. I never have and never will work for peanuts (hopefully, life circumstances will never force me to consider this), but the further my freelancing career progresses, the more I realize I could be earning higher rates already. This will have to come mostly from "replacing" agencies with direct clients. ▲ Collapse | | | Kevin Fulton United States Local time: 12:32 German to English Same old, same old | May 10, 2021 |
Seasonal fluctuations due to holidays, inexplicable gaps in assigned work, multiple jobs arriving the same day with identical deadlines, etc. | | | Nikolay Novitskiy Russian Federation Local time: 21:32 Member (2018) English to Russian Different type of tasks | May 11, 2021 |
When you translate for a long time enough, you notice that you have some preferences and that you do some kind of tasks better than others. As for me, I found that I feel less stress when doing large one-time tasks, rather that supporting a client with a contstant flow of small tasks. So I said farwell to some clients and freed myself for a more preferred type of work. I don't know weather this will increase my income or not, but the level of happiness should be higher then. | | | neilmac Spain Local time: 18:32 Spanish to English + ... Death and taxes are the only things that can definitely be expected. Everything else is a surprise. | | | More clients, more income | May 18, 2021 |
Work has picked up considerably for me. The international organizations that I work for have started to receive funding again, after a pause in U.S. contributions under the previous administrations. | | | Abba Storgen (X) United States Local time: 11:32 Greek to English + ... My expectation would be to summon the devil to make me 20 years younger, quit this industry and marry rich. Anyone happy with multiple organ problems from severe and chronic forced insomnia should get out of the house and meet people with normal jobs - especially those that give you a bonus and a handsome award for completing even 1/3 of what we complete in this industry year-round. Those that grant vacation time, more or less ordinary schedules, and take into account that you are a human being, not a "remote production machine". But nowadays with the online platforms and faceless PMs, we don't even have the customary "thank you, great job".
