みなさん、いかがお過ごしでしょうか？これまで基本的に新型コロナウイルスに関するコラムを書き続けてきましたが、そろそろ変化をつけても良い頃かと思い、思い切って別のトピックにしてみました。最近の外来には、くしゃみ、鼻水、目の痒みにお困りのお子さんが多くいらっしゃいます。お心当たりはありませんか？1歳半ごろ以降の年齢であればお子さんでも花粉症はあり得ます。本コラムでは花粉症についてお伝えいたします。
1, 花粉症と風邪による鼻水の違い
花粉症なの？風邪なの？となかなか判断が難しいですよね。下記の違いを参考にしてみてください。
花粉症っぽさ
季節による再現性があります。去年の今頃もお困りだったか、思い出してみてください。
目の痒みも一緒に起きていたらより花粉症の可能性が上がります。
外来で花粉症に効く薬を処方し、その効果で判断することもあります。花粉症の薬を飲むと、大体1、2日で改善がみられます。一方、風邪による鼻水であればなかなか止まりません。
風邪っぽさ
発熱や咳、お腹のゆるみなどその他の風邪の症状も一緒にある。
同様の症状の家族やお友達が近くにいる。
食欲が落ちるなど、元気がない。
2, 花粉症への対応
花粉症のお薬を飲みます。これは、抗アレルギー薬と呼ばれるものです。蕁麻疹やアレルギー性鼻炎のときと同じ薬です。アレルギーに対応した点鼻薬や点眼薬を使うこともあります。
帰宅後はできるだけ早くシャワーを浴び、着替えましょう。花粉が飛ぶ時期の洗濯物は室内干しがオススメです。
次のシーズンに備え、今回の花粉シーズンが終わった後に舌下免疫療法を開始することも選択肢の一つです。対象は5歳以上となります。
花粉症に悩む方やお子さんにとって少しでも有益な情報であることを願います。（私も今くしゃみをしながらこのコラムを書いています）

How’s it going everyone? Up until now this has essentially been a column about the new corona virus, so thought it was about time for a change and decided to do a different topic. There have been a lot of children suffering from sneezing, runny noses, and itchy eyes coming into the outpatient clinic recently. Did you know that children around age 1.5 years old and older can suffer from hay fever? In this column I’d like to tell you about hay fever.
1. The differences between a runny nose caused by a cold/flu and hay fever
Is it hay fever? Is it the common cold or flu? It can be quite difficult to tell. Check out their differences below.
Hay fever
Happens seasonally. Try to remember if you were also suffering around the same time last year.
If you’ve also got itchy eyes at the same time, there’s a strong possibility it’s hay fever.
We can prescribe outpatient hay fever medication and judge its effectiveness. If you take medicine for hay fever, you will usually see improvement within a day or two. Conversely, a runny nose caused by a cold or flu won’t be so easily stopped.
Cold or flu
Comes with other symptoms such as fever, a cough, or an upset stomach.
Family and friends near you have the same symptoms.
You have no appetite or energy.
2. Handling hay fever
Take medication for hay fever. They're known as allergy medications. These are the same medications used for hives and allergic nasal inflammation. You can also use nasal drops and eye drops for allergies.
Take a shower and change clothes as soon as possible after coming home. You should dry your laundry indoors during the pollen season.
One option to prepare for the next season is to start sublingual immunotherapy after this pollen season. This is for those age 5 and older.
