Source text - French la Sanaga-Maritime, dans la province du Littoral du Cameroun, les populations locales nourrissaient l’espoir d’une amélioration de leurs conditions de vie, s’attendant à d’importants investissements dans le développement durable de leurs localités. Bien que AES SONEL, société parapublique de production et de distribution d’électricité ait entrepris des actions sociales dans le cadre de sa Responsabilité Sociétale, les effets produits n’ont cependant pas eu
un impact significatif sur le développement des communautés riveraines au barrage hydroélectrique de Songloulou, celles-ci se positionnant désormais comme victimes de son implantation dans leur habitat. Les populations de Massok-Songloulou et de Pouma − respectivement 11 000 et 16 000 habitants1 − ont dès lors développé un sentiment d’injustice du fait même de la présence du barrage hydroélectrique sur la terre de leurs ancêtres. Elles estimaient qu’il s’agit là d’une violation de leur environnement
immédiat, d’autant plus que la présence du barrage serait à l’origine de la raréfaction des ressources de la pêche, principale activité de la zone. En outre, les populations déploraient l’interdiction faite aux véhicules d’AES-SONEL de transporter toute personne étrangère à l’entreprise. Pour elles, il s’agissait là d’un véritable manque de solidarité, étant donné les conditions de déplacement difficiles et onéreuses dues au mauvais état des routes. Fort de tout ceci, les relations de cohabitation entre AES SONEL et les populations locales se sont considérablement dégradées. Celles-ci se sont laissées aller à des actes de vandalisme sur les infrastructures de l’entreprise, allant jusqu’à bloquer la route empruntée par les employés de la société,
paralysant ainsi ses activités plusieurs jours durant et obligeant les autorités administratives à intervenir afin de faire baisser la tension. Dans le but d’assainir ces relations de cohabitation et de poursuivre durablement ses activités d’exploitation du barrage hydroélectrique, AES SONEL s’est décidé à refonder sa politique de responsabilité sociétale sur un projet de développement local. Ce projet, destiné aux populations de Massok-Songloulou et de Pouma, visait de manière globale à améliorer les conditions socioéconomiques des communautés environnantes au barrage.
Translation - English In 1982, when the Songloulou Hydroelectric Power Plant was inaugurated, in the Sanaga-Maritime Division, Littoral Province of Cameroon, the local inhabitants expected their living conditions to improve and to see significant investments towards the sustainable development of their localities.
Although AES SONEL, the semi-public company responsible for producing and supplying electricity, undertook some social interventions within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility, the effects did not have a significant impact on the development of communities living around the Songloulou Hydroelectric Power Plant, since they considered themselves victims of its construction on their land.
The population of Massok-Songloulou and Pouma − 11 000 and 16 000 inhabitants1 respectively − therefore harboured a feeling of injustice because of the presence of the Hydroelectric Power Plant on the land of their ancestors. According to these inhabitants, this was a violation of their immediate environment, especially since the presence of the dam is the cause of the decline in fishery resources, which is the main activity of the area. In addition, the populations decried the ban on AES SONEL vehicle from transporting any person who is not a worker of the company. According to the population, this was proof of a real lack of solidarity, given the difficult and costly transportation conditions caused by bad roads.
As a result, coexistence between AES SONEL and the local population deteriorated significantly. They decided to vandalise the infrastructure of the company, to the extent of blocking the access road used by staff of AES SONEL, hence, paralysing its activities for several days and obliging administrative authorities to intervene in order to calm down the tension.
In a bid to improve coexistence and sustainably continue its exploitation activities of the hydroelectric plant, AES SONEL decided to redesign its corporate social responsibility policy into a local development project. The overall aim of this project, that targeted the people of Massok-Songloulou and Pouma, was aimed at improving the social and economic conditions of communities around the dam.

I am a Translator at the Lake Chad Basin Commission(LCBC) an intergovernmental organisation that oversees water and other natural resource usage in the basin. There are six member governments—i.e., Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, the Central African Republic and Libya—chosen for their proximity to Lake Chad. Throughout my career as a professional translator, I have demonstrated proficiency in all core translation and interpretation functions, including project management, terminology production, excellent mastery of state-of-the-art computer assisted translation tools, data and records management, and task prioritization. In addition, during this time, I have carried out countless translation and interpretation projects. I have accelerated the achievement of goals by successfully managing both internal and external relationships and positioned myself as a valuable resource in a variety of situations. I have not only these translation skills, but also a positive, cooperative attitude that I have displayed throughout my career. I maintain calm under pressure and adapt easily to meet the unique needs of each organization. In 2014, I embraced teaching as a new challenge in my career. Two years after I decided to take a break and redirect my career. Thus, in 2017 I started a Masters in Public Management. In 2018, I joined LCBC with headquarters in N’Djamena-Chad.
