disagree  Rosanna Palermo: "dimmer" e' il nome di un interruttore che regola l'intensita' della luce emessa dal lampadario, non ha niente a che fare con funzione "notturna". Quel tipo di lampada si chiama "night light"

Ragionando sulla funzione degli interruttori dimmer, che si utilizzano per variare il grado di brillantezza della luce, ho pensato che potrebbe essere appropriato definire la modalità 'dim' come quella meno brillante, quindi 'soffusa' e quella 'bright' come quella che restituisce una luce piu' 'intensa'.
