I have medical summary for a patient with a diagnosis of "Primär schubförmige MS".
I have looked up the various types of MS, and this phrasing doesn't seem to exactly match any of the three common types.
I believe the patient has the "relapsing-remitting" form, but what is the "Primär" adding to the diagnosis?
The MS has been diagnosed for 10 years, patient was admitted due to a suspected relapse, but MRI showed no new lesions and no progression of existing lesions.
What would the best translation be?

I suspect that other types have not yet been excluded completely, hence the qualifier 'primär'.

Primary relapsing-remitting MS
I agree this does not fit into commonly used MS nomenclature, but I guess the 'primary' implies that the disease process has been relapsing right from the start. The secondary, progressive form often follows initial ( and therefore primary?) relapsing-remitting disease.

: Not the classical, standard classification, but if the source text adds "primär", then the translation should add "primary" – whatever the reporting physician wanted (or not) to indicate with this term
