: Very likely, vanilla ice-cream here in France often has bits of ground-up vanilla pods in it; if you read the ingredients carefully, they do say 'SPËNT vanilla pods' — i.e. purely for show!

As 'vanilla essence / flavouring' is not mentioned in the ingredients, it is possible that the flavour comes only from the vanilla pods — assuming, of course, that at some point we have been told it is indeed vanilla ice-cream!
Actually, the context is very short. I do not even know whether it is provided to kids or if it talks about containers. The title only is provided, followed by ingredients.
