Dutch term
gemengde levensverzekering
Dutch to English
Bus/Financial
Insurance
My context (as the regular readers among you will know by now) is a text detailing various mortgage types, including those linked to a life insurance policy.
See http://www.homefinance.nl/levensverzekering/informatie/gemen... for example:
"Een gemengde verzekering is een combinatie van de kapitaalverzekering bij leven en de tijdelijke kapitaalverzekering bij overlijden."
"Life insurance which also includes term life coverage"?
I feel this is a tricky one because I'm not entirely clear on what the default situation is when you take out life insurance in the English-speaking world.
This page by HRMC http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/ihtmanual/ihtm20000.htm makes the following distinctions:
- term life insurance = payable on death
- pure endowment = payable on a certain date, unless the insured person dies before that date
- endowment = payout on date X or before than if the insured person dies before date X
However, it also seems that in an English-speaking context, endowment policies by default include an investment component (cf. http://www.royallondon.com/financialguidance/guides/investme... which in NL is not the case (that would be the beleggingshypotheek scenario).
Any insurance specialists out there who are able to help with this one/confirm or contradict my suspicions and misgivings? Thank you so much!

endowment insurance / endowment policy
This is what JurLex comes up with.
And see the following definition on Wikipedia:
An endowment policy is a life insurance contract designed to pay a lump sum after a specific term (on its 'maturity') or on death. Typical maturities are ten, fifteen or twenty years up to a certain age limit. Some policies also pay out in the case of critical illness.
Policies are typically traditional with-profits or unit-linked (including those with unitised with-profits funds).

However, FWIW, see also the following:
3. Mixed endowment life insurance: Talizmán:
NN's mixed endowment insurance product is for those who wish to provide for both their own old age and for their families in case of their death. This mixed endowment insurance policy also serves as a savings product. At maturity, NN pays the beneficiary the value of the savings increased with the yield. In case of death, the Talizmán policy provides a high term insurance benefit for the beneficiary.

linked endowment asssurance
Prefix Kitty B's answer with linked generally, then no need to specify if 1. with profits 2. savings-linked 3. unit-linked or 'unitised' 4. investment-linked (ILP) or 5. any other kind of linkage.

Example sentence:
Investment-linked insurance policies (ILPs) have both life insurance and investment components. Your premiums are used to pay for units in investment–linked sub-fund(s) of your choice.

Vergelijk dit met https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endowment_policy: Policies are typically traditional with-profits or unit-linked (including those with unitised with-profits funds).
