Wat wil dit zeggen?? I can't seem to make sense of this. . .

Ja, daar had ik ook al zitten lezen, maar daar gaat het om een belastingtechnische kwestie. Ik weet niet zeker of mijn brontekst dat wel bedoelt, aangezien het met name over de interne voorwaarden van een hypotheekverstrekker gaat. Ik zie niet in waarom ze ineens zouden aangeven hoe dat voor de lener fiscaal uitpakt.

Maar WAAR wordt het niet mee gesaldeerd? Een abstracte definitie van de term "saldering" klinkt logisch, maar ik kan het in deze context gewoonweg niet plaatsen.

Loss of interest: could certainly be part of the equation, but still doesn't detract from and possibly reinforces the idea of 'squaring or settling up' of the interest vs. 'making up' (restoration) of the interest balances.

offset question: yes, but you can leave it open with a wording like 'not offsettable' or 'unamenable to set-off' - the last ways, there is no need to be explict.

Okay. So offset against payable interest on the principal?
Or could this possibly be related to "loss of interest", i.e. the fact that the interest on the construction amount accrues on the remaining amount, not the principal amount, and therefore the disparity between interest receivable and interest payable increases as the construction account balance decreases? But surely if I say the interest on the construction account is not "offset", I will have to say what it isn't offset *against*, no?
