I've got an English text with lots of Portuguese words but unfortunately these words are not given in italics so I;ve got problems with identifying them. Is "bornal" in a phrase "bornal bag" a Portuguese word? And if yes, what does it mean?

Hi there :)
'bornal' is definitely a word used in the Portuguese language; no worries there, you're right.
It's a bag used for carrying provisions or tools, so I'd translate it as a backpack or rucksack. An idea :) Best of luck.

provision sack
Levando-se em consideração que bornal normalmente são aquelas bolsas carregadas por montanhistas, levadas em acampamentos, ou por beduínos no deserto, acho que " provision sack" se encaixa bem no contexto.
