Portuguese term

cultura em sobre-elevação

Portuguese to English Other Fisheries
European PT, from a text on oyster production:

Any ideas or explanations, in English or in Portuguese, would be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ana Vozone Jun 7, 2022:

I think it may be "off-bottom". Have you researched this yourself?

in raised trays

Oyster loading : a single layer of oysters on raised trays in tanks to ensure uninterrupted feeding and prevent fouling of oysters with discharged feces 3 .

The gentle flats of the Barnstable-Dennis stretch of Cape Cod Bay have become rightly famous for the unparalleled buttery quality of the oysters grown there. Crowes Pasture is a classic example. Farmed in raised trays on the flats, tumbled periodically, harvested by pickup truck at low tide.

neutral philgoddard : It doesn't say trays.//The Portuguese says "raised", but not "trays". As Jonathan's reference shows, there are several different containers that can be used.

Off-Bottom Culture

É disso que se trata?

"Off-bottom oyster farming is the culture of oysters
usually held in some type of mesh containers (basket,
bag, cage, etc.) that are kept above the seafloor. Oysters
grown this way are typically hatchery-reared single set
oysters instead of clumps of oysters normally found in
the wild."
