I am not sure I got the full sentence right. My understanding of the full sentence is the following: "De repente, batidas à porta: é um ex-professor banido da USP por incentivar (...)". If this is correct, so is my translation.
Also, "USP" was not translated. My first guess was Universidade de São Paulo.

Sorry, everyone. "Former teacher" is not the correct translation. "Ex-professor" is much more accurate, as you can see from Marlene Curtis' answer.
Also, "USP" was not translated. My first guess was Universidade de São Paulo.
