in a brochure on a butterfly valve
***Design prevents replacement errors*** and eliminates potential for loose parts to travel downstream and cause damage to equipment.
does it mean that when you try to fit replacement parts that are not specific for this model, they won't fit or you won't be able?

To me, the key word is BUTTERFLY valve, i.e. a symmetrical design. Replacement parts are designed in a way that they can't be installed the wrong way. The other explanation "it is designed in such a way that wrong parts will not fit," is an intrinsic feature of any design. I bet 3:1 that you won't be able to install, say, a clutch from a Mercedes 500 in VW's New Beetle...
Example: consider a throttle which is connected to a shaft by two screws. o represents the holes, | is the shaft. The first example is not fool-proof, the second design matches your description:

Due to the position of the holes, the throttle can't be installed the wrong way.

Design does not admit replacement other than with original parts
that may lead to damage.
It is a guess.

You won't be able because parts wouldn't fit - see explanation attempt
This valve seems to have a unique, foolproof (technical) design that makes it impossible to fit inappropriate replacement parts. IOW, such errors are excluded by design as parts don't get mixed up. Another nuance coming into play here IMO: you can't fit parts other than those provided by the original manufacturer.
