foundation pathway (bridging course)

'I'm from the UK and I've never heard of a foundation year' - well, I am and have. This is a common program/me for those who haven't clocked up the right uni. qualifications. Despite the name, these introductory courses in the UK are not that easy to pass. So foundation may be only half the story in this context.

Compare a pre-university gap year, namely a year off.
Example sentence:

gap year: a period, typically an academic year, taken by a student as a break between school and university or college education.

Foundation years are an extra year of study at the start of the course that allows students who don't have the required entry requirements .

neutral philgoddard : I've already said this.

Then you ought to have posted as an answer, minus *my* idea of pathway.

agree Cillie Swart : found this too :-)

neutral Lara Barnett : I have never seen this term used in UK in this context. The literal translation may be a red herring here - do you have any links showing usage in this context?

neutral JudyC : It does exist in a UK educational context, but it means you repeat the year for unsatisfactory results (ripetente) https://bristol.ac.uk/students/support/academic-advice/outco...

Foundation year?

Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree JudyC : With the difference that the "anno integrativo" was literally an extra year offered by the schools not the universities
