DEFINITIE

Als de overheid heel actief is op een markt, verdringt zij gezinnen en bedrijven van de markt. Dat wordt crowding-out genoemd. Voorbeeld op de vermogensmarkt: een overheid met een groot financieringstekort zorgt voor een grote vraag op de kapitaalmarkt. Door deze grote vraag stijgt de rente. Lenen wordt duurder voor gezinnen (consumptie) en bedrijven (investeringen).
