pioneer / fore-runner / first in the field Explanation: "Being a / the..." — depends a bit how you handle the rest of the list. I also thought of 'front-runner', but that conveys a different notion, i.e. that there are others behind (the 'also-rans'!), which is not quite the same as 'primo' here. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 13 jours (2017-02-13 07:01:43 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- As Polyglot rightly points out, the source term does not necessarily mean the ONLY first one, but AMONG the first ones; so the translation can be adapted to reflect that as necessary; sometimes 'one of the first...' is all it needs, though that is perhaps rather weak for certain marketing-type contexts. |
