Yes, "real mortgage payments" does the job nicely, I think, with the breakdown into principal and interest explained in the definition of the term that follows directly below. If you suggest this as an answer (assessment of ~), I can add it to the glossary etc.

To be fair, it occurs in my source text as part of a glossary, and therefore is immediately succeeded by a precise definition.

But my misgivings about the word "costs" still stand. IMO the interest payments for the interest-only part of the loan are "costs", i.e. the charges you pay to the bank for the privilege of getting the mortgage in the first place. But the annuity repayments that for the remainder of the "werkelijke lasten" aren't technically the *costs* of the loan. . .they're simply (parts of) the loan (amount).

This is a tricky one Normally speaking I would suggest using something like true (mortgage) costs for werkelijke (hypotheek)lasten - or actual (mortgage) costs as suggested by jan en sas - but the term is used in a very specific sense here and IMO should be regarded and treated as a name. It's probably wisest to leave the Dutch in italics and add some kind of paraphrase/explanation between brackets.

Maybe I'm being terribly pedantic, but I can't help but have the sense that, in the context of "woninglasten" associated with a mortage, "costs" aren't quite the same thing as "lasten". "Lasten" = your ongoing outgoings associated with the mortgage. But the *costs* of a loan = interest payments/charges, the actual debt itself isn't really "costs" in the strictest sense of the word. (It's the cost of the property, but not the cost of the loan, if you see what I mean.)

Or am I being nuts? :-)
