Not sure how best to translate this sentence. "We happily/willingly allow our senses to be tricked..."? / "we graciously accept that/permit our senses to be tricked " ?
Cuando los espectadores veían a Houdini el pasado siglo, quedaban subyugados e incluso muchos estaban probablemente convencidos de que el mago tenia poderes sobrenaturales. Con el tiempo, la capacidad de sorpresa y la credulidad de los espectadores se ha moderado bastante. Ahora, cuando vemos un truco de magia, sabemos que es un truco. Pero si su puesta en escena es impecable, si su narración es atractiva, persuasiva, más que ver un truco, estamos dejándonos llevar por la historia que nos transmite, por la magia. En este juego de sobreentendidos, nadie duda de que un truco de magia no es nada más (y nada menos) que una bella historia. Que la compremos o no, depende de quién, y cómo la explica. ***Aceptamos deportivamente que nuestros sentidos se sientan engañados*** si la historia lo merece.
