Discussion

Younes Mostafaei Nov 13, 2012:
Indeed the whole passage seems odd somehow! Much obliged.
Hojat Borumandi Nov 13, 2012:
thank you very much dear Mr. Mostafaei. yes i got your point and agree with you. i especially prefer your equivalent "مثه کرم زیاد میشن" since "می زائن" is a bit odd to pronounce
Younes Mostafaei Nov 13, 2012:
Dear Mr Borumandi Thank you for your participation. I guess there has been a misunderstanding! Actually, I was trying to say that the type of language used here, truncated form of words, need to be reflected in our rendering. I didn't say that زاد و ولد کردن is not used in spoken language, my point is that the form of the words should resemble that of the original. So it's better to use زیاد میشن/ میزائن/ زاد و ولد می کنن. Moreover you cannot claim that it is talking about a single thing, because there are words like (fine things, these Laceham goods) and the sentences are ungrammatical > it's a fine things.
We should accept that میزائن / زیاد می شن is more frequent in spoken form of language than زاد و ولد می کنن.
I hope I have been successful in getting my message across.
Regards.
Hojat Borumandi Nov 13, 2012:
thanks for your comment. but i think the term "زاد و ولد کردن" is also used in conversational or spoken language instead of تولید مثل کردن. furthermore the words "anybody, has, and it" show it is talking about a single thing therefore with regard to the informal tone of the writer i prefer: مثل کرم زاد و ولد می کنه
Younes Mostafaei Nov 13, 2012:
An interesting point! What is of interest as well as significance to me is the type of the language used and the wording. Taking only a cursory look reveals that it is somehow different from ordinary language.
The words are truncated, they also seem to be an indicator of the character traits. I tried to reflect this somehow in my rendering. I could translate as مثل کرم زیاد می شوند/ زاد و ولد می کنند, but the point is that مثه کرم زیاد میشن/ میزائن, though a reflection of the spoken form of language, is more successful in giving the impression which the original does.
