I would suggest to translate the meaning of that term, because there are different ways of scoring a goal when a player receives a ball from his mate and shoots it to the net without the ball touching the ground.

A volley/a volley shot

A volley is an air-borne strike in association football, where a player's feet meets and directs the ball in an angled direction before it has time to reach the ground. A volley can be extremely hard to aim and requires good foot-eye coordination and timing.

neutral Ruth Braine : I've never heard this term used in football commentary (and I watch a lot of football!). Believe it might be more commonly used for other sports (the Wikipedia article mentions ice hockey, for example)
