It is about a small ferry boat doing expeditions to diving spots mainly. It is certified as a big oceanic cruise boat but is much much smaller. It can accommodate about 25 guests aboard. |

: I must admit, that's how I first understood it too; more context would help, to start with, to tell us if this actually is a boat-trip, and also, if there are alternative 'below-decks' activities?

Watching whalesharks is a good indication that they are on a boat. Thank you, Tony.

Example sentence:
topside=gite ,entre autres

: topside only = gîte (à la noix) when referring to a cut of beef, nothing whatever to do with the present context!

The tour also offers a topside experience for those who would rather view safely from the boat, and as I squeeze into my wet suit and watch ..

@ Florence: despite the fact that the formal, technical meaning of the uncountable noun 'topsides' is indeed 'œuvres mortes', it is in fact very common usage in everyday parlance to talk about 'topside' (an adjective here, and note use of singular) when one means 'up/out on deck', usually when contrasting it with 'down below / below decks'. So I don't think that would be sufficient reason for ruling out this highly plausible solution...
