English term

painted

English to French Art/Literary Music Jimi Hendrix
J'ai cette citation de Jimi Hendrix :

"Imagination is the key to my lyrics. The rest is painted with a little science fiction."

I'd almost say that his lyrics are based on an outline of imagination, and this is 'painted in' (like Painting by Numbers!)

I don't think it means 'given an overall colour-cast', which is the sort of idea 'teinté' conjures up for me (as a non-native, of course!)
Peer comment(s):

neutral siragui : Ditto. Technically, I think you're right. He's saying "I use sci-fi to paint/compose the rest". But like EM says, does it really make a difference?

Thnx! Well, only to my non-native ears, obviously ;-)
neutral Emmanuelle Moulin : "colorier" doesn't work in a figurative sense. I see your point though, which is why "parsemé" is perhaps better here. After all he didn't say "tinted with", but well, Jimi Hendrix probably didn't care much about established terminology. :p

OK, thanks a lot, Emmanuelle! 'coloriage' was just what came into my mind...
