and proposing new ideas
All answers given so far are perfectly good English but I find "advancing new hypotheses" belongs more to the realm of science. My suggestion is to try this little play on words: "by posing questions and proposing new ideas".

A warning as to the danger of a dangling participle. It may be best to say \"When we pose questions and propose new ideas, our spirit..\".
If you begin with \"By posing...\", the subject of the main clause should be \"we\".
