in a book about 'auditing' your own life to better allocate your time.
I don't understand what "or maybe need" refers to here: "prepared" or "invest"?
ie: "or you need to invest" OR "or you are prepared to need"...
Know what I mean? I'm sure it'll be obvious for most of you, but for me, after 78 pages of this...

IMHO, je pense que "les investissements... nécessaires" rend suffisamment l'idée de need to invest...

Comme je le comprend, c'est une metaphore. (...evaluer l'investissement social et emotionnel que vous etes disposé a consentir ou dont vous avez besoin).
