While indemnify/indemnification does ultimately mean to "compensate" a contractual party by a third party, the appropriate legalese used in contracts and court filings in the US would be "indemnification". Indemnification is the term of art used specifically when compensation is sought by a party to a contract from a third party (not a party to the contract).
