private association established under civil law

sem fins lucrativos means "not for profit" not "non profit". Not-for-profit means that profit is not the PURPOSE of the association (sem FIMS lucrativos).

Translation of your sentence:

"The X Institute is a not-for-profit private association X, established under civil law to propose integrated solutions to social and environmental problems."

Partnership // PC // Private partnership

This is what it known as a PC in the US; a private partnership, usually professional (lawyers or doctors).

Private partnership set up under civil law. But I wouldn't put the last part in except as a literal translation, it's redundant.

I should add that \"PC\" means Professional Corporation (business legal entity)

I had not noticed that the \"sem fins lucrativos\". Thanks to Jane for pointing it out.

This is:

A NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATION

Note that a Non-profit corporation may not make a profit uder any circumstances whereas a not-for-profit corporation may occasionally make a profit though it is not their PURPOSE (sem FIMS lucrativos).
