English term

reactions

English to French Law/Patents Law (general)
Dans cette phrase - The police certificate only shows penal reactions for periods where the person has stayed in Norway, or reactions that are otherwise registered in the Norwegian police records.-, le terme reactions me pose soucis.

Jennifer Levey Jan 13, 2023:
Also ... Worth noting also that the certificate I found refers to penalties, sanctions and other measures where the subject of the certificate is a University, so the term "reaction" reaksjonen is not specific to young offenders.
Jennifer Levey Jan 13, 2023:
Pistes ... ? (FWIW) A Google search on keywords from Tomaasso's reference text ungdomsstraff ungdomsoppfølging norway 2014 throws up a text in Norwegian that says: "Innholdet av reaksjonen fastsettes i et ungdomsstormøte...". And (not surprisingly), if you put that into Gtranslate (Norwegian to French) , it suggests that that phrase means Le contenu de la réaction est déterminé lors d'une conférence de jeunes".
Perhaps it would be worthwhile posting that phrase in the Norwegian to French Kudoz ... ?
Jennifer Levey Jan 13, 2023:
@AT No, it's not a typo. See sample certificate in reference box below.
AllegroTrans Jan 13, 2023:
Typo? Could this be penal actions?

mesures/sanctions pénales

Conditional sentencing allows a
judge to include restorative, and other non-penal sanctions along with, or in place of, incarceration.

Note from asker:

agree Daryo : "sanctions pénales" // BTW if you look at the etymology of "sanction" that's exactly what a "sanction" is: a reaction of either approval or disapproval.

English term (edited): reaction/s (NOR)

l'/les intervention/s

reaktion at the mo has no Norwegian ProZ entry into any lingo: including book variety or New Norwegian. '... penal reactions' out of context still leaves open other options.

The way it is used, as in the discussion entries and Tomasso's program for offenders suggests the offender needs consent to the sentence, as in the UK - like a CSO / Community Servcie Order.

The nature of the Norwegian connotes non-punishment scenarios such as 'stop & search' and 'helping police with their enquiries'.

reaksjon : straff eller anna reaksjon > 'a penalty or *other sanction*' cf. advarsel = caution (administered to an offender), Patrick N. Chaffey (possibly British, Norwegian>English legal dictionary, University Press 1992, but 'caution' - I used to find, in NOR/ENG translation practice, quite a few of the translations 'iffy'
....
Example sentence:

programs for ofenders?

new-penal-reactions-for-youth-in-Norway The youth reactions consists of 3 components:
1: Youth conference
- including restorative process,
meeting the victim
2: Making a Youth action plan
3: Carrying out the Youth action plan –
with help by a follow-up team

1352-5966-1-CE.pdf(Down load from https://boap.uib.no/ }
For both reactions, the defendant (and his or her legal guardian) has to consent if the
reaction is to be imposed. As the youth reactions are intended to be the most suitable for
the young offender, the defendant thus has an opportunity to receive a form of punishment
that is constructive and restorative. However, the consent is given before the reaction is
meted out. The content of the reaction is decided later, in a youth conference. Thus, the
opportunity may become a trap if the content of the reaction turns out to be more severe
than the punishment that would have been chosen instead of a youth reaction.
Although the two youth reactions are similar on many counts, the youth punishment
is reserved for more serious offences, and the repercussions for an offender failing to meet
the conditions in the action plan may be more severe than when the reaction is youth
follow-up. If an offender sentenced to youth punishment does not meet the conditions,
he or she risks imprisonment. In this article, I therefore focus on youth punishment.

Norsk https://konfliktraadet.no/straffereaksjoner/ungdomsstraff-og...

Possibilities and challenges with the new penal reactions for youth in Norway

In 2014, Norway implemented two new kinds of reactions for young offenders: youth punishment (ungdomsstraff) and youth follow-up (ungdomsoppfølging). These reactions are intended to build upon the ideas of restorative justice.
