The riverbed falls away in a chaos of huge blocks, fluted rock walls and dangerous water-eroded slots, with the remnants of a few trees jammed here and there for good measure. In the rare times of heavy rain this would be quite a waterfall. There is no hint of this dramatic feature on the map, though the name Manantial (Spring) de los Charcones occurs nearby. The continuation of the rambla is visible some way below but how will I reach it? I make two attempts to work my way down this maze of rock but fail and have to reverse my moves. It’s only climbing of ‘moderate’ standard, but I’m on my own and breaking a leg here would not be a good idea. I scramble out and up the left side of the valley to a goat-path, then stay above a nearby ruin to allow the crossing of a DEEPLY ETCHED tributary valley coming in from the left which looks totally insignificant on the map.

Explanation:
En realidad deeply-etched da la idea de profundo y angosto, pero tratándose de un valle creo que podría decirse simplemente profundo.
En castellano ¨tributary valley¨ sería valle colgado/suspendido/glaciar, que por definición tienen un perfil en ¨U¨y están a un nivel más elevado que la vía fluvial de la que son tributarios, como se describe en el párrafo.

VALLE SUSPENDIDO O COLGADO
Valle que estaba ocupado anteriormente por un glaciar de valle tributario, que debido a su pequeño tamaño no consiguió socavar el valle originalmente tributario a la misma velocidad que el glaciar principal. Después de la deglaciación, estos valles tributarios quedaron a mayor altura que el suelo del valle principal, y si presentan corrientes de agua, desembocan en el valle principal mediante una cascada. Es posible, pero no raro, que debido a erosión diferencial un río y sus tributarios den lugar a valles colgados sin intervención glaciar.
