mounting Explanation: In a crown or tiara, I think it's called the mounting, which is also the word for putting the thing together. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2022-04-13 17:16:36 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- As Abe(L) notes in the discussion section, it refers to the frame/framework of the headgear in question to which the gems and other details are added, which I think is called a mounting in jewellery parlance.
