English term or phrase: germander
Teucrium, the germander family, is up on the ridge too, as is Ononis natrix, described in one of the definitive plant guides as a ‘much-branched dwarf subshrub’. It’s right up by the deposito. In English it’s called large yellow rest-harrow so, yes, it’s yellow. Then there’s Erodium, stork’s bill, a geranium-like plant, and Phagnalon rupestre, or possibly Phagnalon saxatile; they are so similar that even dry-land botanists can’t always tell them apart. Oh, and they’re yellow. Bupleurum fruticosum, an aromatic evergreen shrub known as shrubby hare’s ear, has also found a home on the rocky ridge. And there’s Chrysanthemum coronarium, crown daisy. I won’t even tell you what colour these last two are. This is certainly the place to be if you are a plant-lover of the amarillo persuasion.

The most intriguing snippet was about the strikingly prominent patches of vivid orange lichen on the tops of most of the rocks which project up from ground level on the ridge. Where the rocks stick up, those extra fifty centimetres or so of height supply the perfect perch for birds whose droppings provide ideal nitrogen enrichment to spur the growth of the lichen.
