: Depending on the style adopted, I like "earmark" and "carve up", although maybe a verbal phrasing would be a nice idea. Not sure than "valuables" is necesary.

Thanks, Nikki. It had been in fact been a crude dispossession in a process of 'Aryanisation', described in one German book as citizens in a hall starting with 'all their possessions at one clerk's desk and ending up with abs. nothing' at the last desk.
