stålrörelsen

Swedish to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting
Hello

In:

Han och bisittaren vice vd Bo Berggren, såg ännu bara problem i ***stålrörelsen***

what does "stålrörelsen" actually mean?

It occurs quite a bit on the Internet (not in dictionaries) but nothing comes to mind in English, not my mind at least

Thanks

Non-PRO (2): Christopher Schröder, Anna Herbst

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Agneta Pallinder Aug 18, 2018:
rörelse Rörelse is often used for the general activity of carrying on a business, as in rörelsekapital - working capital, etc.
Stålrörelsen - the steel business;
Stålaktiviteter - steel interests;
Stålverk - steel works.
That's what I would suggest.
Anders Ericsson Aug 17, 2018:
... i.e. "rörelse" kan mean "movement" both as a physical movement or as a social phenomenon or development, another meaning is that of a "business enterprise".
A general tip, see if the word is a compound and look up the parts individually. If the compound doesn't have any specific meaning beyond the parts it is constituted of, you're not likely to find it in any dictionary. You have to look up the parts and get the compound meaning by that. "stål" is rather straightforward, just means "steel", so it's simply a matter of clarifying what different alternatives might be applicable of "rörelse". (se https://svenska.se/tre/?sok=rörelse&pz=1)
Anders Ericsson Aug 17, 2018:
In the examples "vars stålrörelse" and "sin brasilianska stålrörelse", "rörelse" basically menas "enterprise".
(as i said "steel movement" needs to be adjusted according to bigger context)
SafeTex (asker) Aug 17, 2018:
@Anders and all Hello

I wondered about this but I found too many entries on the Internet where this would not work IMHO like:

Släkten Stenbeck var år 1963, via i första hand Investment AB Kinnevik, största ägare i Korsnäs-Marma och Sandvik. Är 1978 blev Kinnevik största ägare i Fagersta, vars stålrörelse år 1984 såldes till Avesta Jernverk och Sandvik.

or

ThyssenKrupp gör sig av sin brasilianska stålrörelse

Therefore, I guess its an investment or business but what exactly is the difference then between stålrörelser and stålaktiviteter or stålverk ???

steel movement

It's just a compound of "stål" and "rörelse".
Without the greater context, I guess it refers to the development of the steel industry. ("steel movement" is what it literally means, but would probably not be my first hand choice, depending on greater context)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Anna Herbst : This brings the thought to physical movements in the steel. Your suggestion "enterprise" is more appropriate in the asker's context.
