Bonjour à tous,

Je comprends le sens de "shadow" dans cette phrase, mais j'ai du mal à trouver une solution qui me convienne. Des idées ?

"We have been farming fish and shellfish as a means of sustenance for thousands of years, but those earliest beginnings, which were predominantly based on the capture and ranching of wild species, are not a shadow on today’s technologically advanced aquaculture sector that includes the culture of more than 500 different aquatic animals."

neutral  polyglot45: "not be be a shadow of" est une expression consacrée qui veut dire "ne sont pas du même acabit (et de loin)" "sont dérisoires comparés à"// loin de moi de recommander de coller à une traduction mais faut reproduire la même idée !

  -> seeing s.t. being a "faded" version of s.t. else as a calque for "shadow"? With some imagination, maybe. Or maybe the EN term is a calque of the FR term? One way or another that's definitely widely used in French, and in the right (for this ST) meaning.
