Italian term

sfondellamento

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
elementi non strutturali antiribaltamento e antisfondellamento

I know what it is (it is when the bottom part of the hollow bricks used in Italy to make floors/ceilings breaks off, resulting in partial collapse of the ceiling) but I have been racking my brain as to how I should translate it in English. Any ideas?

Sarah Hilditch (asker) Apr 4, 2017:
For the moment I have used "collapse" but am not happy with the term, as "sfondellamento" does not necessarily mean total collapse of the ceiling. I am leaving the question open in case anybody comes up with a better idea!

Grazie Enrica, ma speravo in qualche termine più "specifico" del settore :)

agree cilantro : I found it, the term derives from the layer of plaster placed underneath the hollow-core slab in the ceiling; "fondello" in Italian, or "lining". So that the idiomatic expression does not have a direct translation
