When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Im Englischen wird man das umschreiben müssen. Vielleicht wäre eine der folgenden Formulierungen denkbar:

a short deliberation without retiring [from the courtroom]
Ähnlich also wie in folgenden Beispielen:
"This being all the evidence, after the Coroner had said a few words to the Jury, they without retiring returned the following verdict: [...]"

I don't think that's quite it. The counsel for both parties wouldn't be there when judges/jury consider their verdict after the hearing. Of course, they would be in the same room in this case but wouldn't be part of the deliberations/wouldn't listen in.

To avoid legalese, just use something like " informal conversations between the judge and one of the parties"

: There is nothing to suggest the opposing party wasn't present; "scheinbar" = "allegedly" - author himself doesn't know what happened. The "decisive" part is this one: "warum man nicht [...] für die Beratung kurzfristig den Sitzungssaal verlässt" Cf. d-box

Thanks Björn. The text suggests to me that one sided discussions took place which the author thinks might have legal consequences, hence the legalese option. Always nice to have options.

It is not an out-of-court consulation and the opposing party is present; that leaves you with only one (correct) answer.
