French term

N.I.S.

French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
This is in the footer of a business document from Monaco.

Répertoire du Commerce 33 S 33333 – N.I.S. 3333 C 33333

There are plenty of hits for NIS, but none seem to fit the context.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Catharine Cellier-Smart

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

The www is a great place to check this sort of thing. Monaco has a number of useful sites online.

Statistical Identification Number (NIS)

See http://www.en.caisses-sociales.mc/Home/Self-employed-worker/... .

Two other official Monaco sites pop up in Google, but as soon as one asks for the English version, they go belly-up:

http://www.monacostatistics.mc/Procedures-and-services/NIS-r...

http://en.service-public-entreprises.gouv.mc/Starting-a-busi...

Google's snippets confirm the English version, though.

The NIS is not just a company register number but also contains the NAF code corresponding to the type of activity.

agree BrigitteHilgner : You were the first person to provide an explanation in French - I think that was most important.

Statistical Identification Number

Hi all,

I can only confirm what others have previously said: it is an abbreviation for the French "Numéro d'Identification Statistique". Thomas has mentioned the official website providing information about it in English. For French, check http://www.imsee.mc/Demarches-et-Services/Attribution-NIS

I prefer keeping abbreviation with explanation in footnote or in brackets.

STEP 2: RECEIVING YOUR IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

The Numéro d’Identification Statistique (N.I.S.) [Identification Number] is issued to each economic entity (individuals, companies or organisations) by the Institut Monégasque de la Statistique et des Études Économiques [Monaco Institute of Statistics and Economic Research] (IMSEE) in order to define its main area of activity.
