Portuguese term

cirurgias coronarianas

Portuguese to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Para uma seguradora americana, houve redução de custos por evento, por exemplo 30% a 40% de redução em cirurgias coronarianas e 10% a 20% em cirurgias de cateter.

Como seriam as traduções para "cirurgias coronarianas" e "cirurgias de cateter", por favor?

Hi, PaulaEsp, nothing better than contacting a cardiologist:)

Boa escolha vi muitas ocorrências no Google de "coronary bypass surgery", mas náo tinha certeza se todas as intervenções cirúrgicas coronárias são de by-pass
PaulaEsp (asker) Aug 26, 2012:
Pessoal, agradeço muito a ajuda de todos vocês. Acabei telefonando para o pai de uma amiga que é cardiologista e ele me falou para usar "coronary bypass surgery". Abraços.

"heart operations" Good.
Georgia Morg (X) Aug 26, 2012:
cirugias de cateter I think these would be best translated as "angioplasties". I don't like "surgeries" in the plural, even if it "can" be used. What's wrong with "heart operations"?
Marlene Curtis Aug 26, 2012:
Surgeries My life has already played this game and .... I've had two open heart surgeries....the first scar had faded almost

Vou colocar isso, então, mas sem o plural, pois surgery é noncount noun.

You can use the word "surgery" in the plural when it relates to the procedures.

disagree liz askew : never come across "coronary surgeries" in all my medical translation experience, but hey what do I know? "Catheter surgeries" does not work either. Also, no bona fide hits for this on any English language medical site:)

heart surgeries

Since the text does not appear to be geared to the medical profession, I would go with 'heart'

e.g.,

But they also learned that the total costs incurred for congenital heart surgeries varied significantly among the hospitals examined in this study.

By doing so, the life quality of the patients will be enhanced and the costs related to diabetes treatments (heart surgeries, amputation, medication, and collateral complications) will be reduced.

While all open heart surgeries involve some risk, major complications are rare because of improved technology and surgical techniques.

This would work if the original text was in a magazine or newspaper, for example, rather than a scientific paper.

this doesn't need to be in the plural

as they are talking about a 30% reduction in number of operations

so

"surgery" in the singular is just fine.
