Not the native speaker here, so I don't know how valid my FR is, but that's the literal meaning; 'spare' here means 'lean', 'maigre' except that it seems to be regarded as a positive quality, so I would say that 'épuré' is perhaps better...?

: I wasn't sure if you could use 'arrangement' when it refers to a setting of words to music? (rather than an arrangement as in EN for a different group of instruments etc.)?
