"The technical words are all more or less the same in both languages, so you don't actually need to translate the words, just the grammar."
I'm sorry, I would like to reassure you that he was kidding, but I can only add insult to injury by specifying that I wasn't even a translator at the time, just a kid fresh out of school trying to wing it as an English teacher.
