With the world becoming increasingly digital, the reliance on the internet and internet-enabled devices have also increased. However, increased digitisation leads to higher carbon emissions. To tackle this issue, proponents of sustainable technology have started espousing “low-carbon websites” that are optimised to minimise data usage and reduce their carbon footprint.
In fact, the rising dependence on the internet during the pandemic has caused a surge in carbon emissions.
The Indian Network on Ethics and Climate Change (INECC), which is a group of individuals across the country working towards climate change and advocating sustainable lifestyle, has developed a low-carbon website. Reportedly, it’s the only known low-carbon website in the country.
After the website was revamped, the INECC reduced the yearly carbon dioxide emissions arising out of people visiting their website by around 500 kilogrammes a year, according to an estimate.
While the previous design of the website would cause emission of 517 kg of CO2 a year for 10,000 page views, the redesigned website would lead to emission of only 24.6 kg of CO2. In other words, the INECC website’s CO2 emission reduced by more than 95% upon optimising it.
“Using Information Technology [IT] has its environmental impacts owing to high electricity use. This situation won’t change unless there is a fast and large shift to better efficiency of electricity usage and a shift to renewable sources of energy for electricity generation,” Priyadarshini Karve, executive committee member, INECC, told Mongabay-India.
Experts say that reducing the usage of graphics and drop-down menus, and replacing them with JPEGs and GIFs could reduce the page weight. Using compressed images and videos could significantly reduce the page load. Finding local data centers or switching to the cloud for storage is also advised for reducing the carbon emissions from a website. Similarly, writing clean code while minimizing the usage of high-resolution images, or moving to cleaner forms of energy for hosting can also reduce the carbon footprint.

I Mr Karthigesu Thirulogasundar (IC No: 730822464V) of No 20 , Chilawatha, Mullaitivu writing this letter to confirm the payment which I had received from Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan ( IC No: 792483917V ) currently residing in No 19, Prasan Road, Northampton, NN4 8TL, United Kingdom.
This payment is for the Business of Riverland Pvt Ltd (P/V/00212815) which was in an agreement between us.
Due to financial difficulty I had agreed with Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan to take over the shop as I was not in a position to continue the business.
Therefore I had agreed with Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan to end my partnership, upon terminating this partnership, I Mr Karthigesu Thirulogasundar agree that I will be removed as a Director, at the same time I do not have any control over this business or premises. Upon Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan returning to Srilanka I will be handing over the business to him. If any reasons if Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan cannot return to Srilanka he may appoint someone on his behalf through Power of attorney.
If I failed to return the shop as agreed Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan may take legal action to evict me from the shop, all the legal fees and loss of earnings can be claimed by Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan.
I have taken several payments from Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan, some of the payments Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan had been settled it in the United Kingdom to the nominated person I had asked Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan to hand the amount, some of the payments I had received from Mr Kandasamy Kiritharans family members in Mullaitivu.
Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan had acted fairly, honest and settled my full payment of Rupees in Total One Crore, Fifty two lakhs, seventy four thousand, six hundred and one rupees and 85 pence. (Rs 15,274,601.85).
I Mr Karthigesu Thirulogasundar confirm that my payments have been fully settled and I no longer have any partnership or any association with this shop or the business name Riverland Pvt Ltd (P/V/00212815).
I am satisfied and agreed to the contents of this final payment letter which I had given this to Mr Kandasamy Kiritharan.

The agriculture industry plays a critical role in the U.S. economy, and various industry sectors depend on the output of farms. To protect and raise farmers’ income, the U.S. government offers two subsidy programs to farmers: the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) program, which pays farmers a subsidy when the market price falls below a reference price, and the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) program, which is triggered when farmers’ revenue is below a threshold. Given the unique features of PLC and ARC, we develop models to analyze their impacts on consumers, farmers, and the government. Our analysis generates several insights. First, while PLC always motivates farmers to plant more acres compared to the no-subsidy case, farmers may plant fewer acres under ARC, leading to a lower crop supply. Second, despite the prevailing intuition that ARC generally dominates PLC, we show that both farmers and consumers may be better off under PLC for a large range of parameter values, even when the reference price represents the historical average market price. Third, the subsidy that increases consumer surplus results in higher government expenditure. Finally, we calibrate our model with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data and provide insights about the effects of crop and market characteristics on the relative performance of PLC and ARC. We provide guidelines to farmers for enrolling crops in the subsidy programs, and show that our guidelines are supported by farmers’ enrollment statistics. We also show that if the economic and political frictions caused by running the subsidy programs is significant, the subsidy that benefits both consumers and farmers may actually result in lower social welfare.

If your audio system does not support HDMI ARC, an additional connection with DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) is necessary. Your TV can be mounted on a wall using a Wall-Mount Bracket (not supplied) out of the box as packaged. Prepare the TV for the Wall-Mount Bracket before making cable connections. For product protection and safety reasons, Sony strongly recommends that installation of your TV on the wall be performed by qualified professionals. Do not attempt to install it yourself.
