Texte source - anglais YEAR ABROAD INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT
Article 1.
SPLAS certifies that ____________________ is a full time registered student at the University of Nottingham on a ______________________ degree course within the SPLAS Department. The third year is a compulsory year abroad. It is an integral part of a four year degree without which students cannot progress into the final year of their studies. This Agreement covers all forms of work placement whether paid, unpaid or voluntary, undertaken by SPLAS students during their Year Abroad in Spain, Portugal and/or Latin America. It is noted that work is an approved option for SPLAS Year Abroad students. The Department provides this Agreement to facilitate the contractual arrangements between the student, the employer and the University.
Article 2.
While on work placement during the Year Abroad the student continues to be bound by the University’s Code of Conduct. As an employee of the host organisation the student also agrees to adhere to the regulations of the employer as well as the legislation of the host country.
Article 3.
The student is responsible to take out all relative insurance cover including health, travel and personal liability (work place insurance) to include all areas of their employment during the Year Abroad.
Article 4.
The employer agrees to inform the student in full of the terms and conditions of the position which should include, where relevant, the following (see attached Appendix):
(i) Position title and duties
(ii) Period of employment (including commencement date)
(iii) Hours of work
(iv) Rates of pay
(v) Named line manager
(vi) Health and Safety policies and procedures
(vii) Sickness policy and procedures
(viii) Leave entitlement
(ix) Disciplinary policies and procedures
(x) Conditions for termination of contract
Article 5.
At the end of the employment period the employer agrees to provide the student with a certificate of employment or affidavit detailing the nature of work undertaken by the student as an employee of the host institution.
Article 6.
The three parties below hereby agree in full to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.

Artículo primero.
SPLAS certifica que ____________________ es estudiante matriculado en la Universidad de Nottingham con carga académica a tiempo completo en el grado de ______________________ dentro del plan de estudios del Departamento de Español, Portugués y Estudios Latinoamericanos (SPLAS). El tercer año de dicho grado comprende una estancia obligatoria en el extranjero y forma parte integral del grado de 4 años sin el cual el estudiante no podrá acceder al último año de titulación. El presente acuerdo comprende todas las modalidades de prácticas de carácter remunerado, no remuneradas o voluntario para estudiantes de SPLAS durante su año de estudios en España, Portugal y/o Latinoamérica. Se hace constar que las prácticas laborales son una opción válida para estudiantes que realizan una estancia de estudios en el extranjero. El Departamento proporciona el presente acuerdo con el fin de facilitar las disposiciones contractuales entre el estudiante, la empresa u organización contratante y la Universidad.
Artículo segundo.
Durante su año de estudios en el extranjero, el estudiante en prácticas sigue vinculado a la Universidad de Nottingham y es responsable de observar el Código de conducta de la misma así como de cumplir con las leyes, reglamentos y políticas internas tanto de la empresa contratante como del país de acogida.
Artículo tercero.
Es responsabilidad del estudiante contratar las pólizas de seguros y de responsabilidad civil (incluído seguro médico y de viaje) que den cobertura a todas las áreas de prácticas laborales que el mismo realice durante su estancia en el extranjero.
Artículo cuarto.
La empresa u organización contratante se compromete a informar en detalle al estudiante sobre la legislación laboral y las condiciones del puesto de trabajo, lo que deberá incluir, cuando proceda (véase el Apéndice adjunto a este documento):
(i) Nombre del puesto y sus obligaciones
(ii) Duración del período de prácticas (con especificación de la fecha de inicio)
(iii) Jornada de trabajo
(iv) Remuneración
(v) Nombre del superior jerárquico
(vi) Políticas y procedimientos en seguridad e higiene
(vii) Políticas y procedimientos en caso de enfermedad
(viii) Licencia para ausentarse del trabajo/ Baja laboral
(ix) Políticas y procedimientos de disciplina
(x) Condiciones de rescisión de contrato
Artículo quinto.
Finalizado el período de prácticas, la organización de acogida se compromete a entregar al estudiante un certificado o declaración jurada sobre sus prácticas, que especifique la naturaleza del trabajo realizado por el estudiante en la organización de acogida.
Artículo sexto.
Las tres partes firmantes manifiestan su total acuerdo con los términos y condiciones del presente Acuerdo.

A speech by The Prince of Wales.
Dartington Hall, Devon, October 4, 2002
"Ladies and Gentlemen. I am sorry to bring your conversations to an end but I am so pleased to be with you this evening at the start of the first Prince of Wales Education Summer School.
I think I should say at the outset that my whole aim is to facilitate, rather than to dictate. And I couldn’t possibly lecture you on the way you go about your profession, but like everyone – and every parent – I have long held my own particular views about the excellence achieved and the standards set by education as a whole in this country.
Therefore, at the risk of boring you to distraction, I thought I ought to give you a little of the background as to why I, of all people, should have organised a summer school for History and English teachers.
Now, I think, it goes back to when I was a teenager in the 1960s and remembered witnessing what I realise now was a kind of cultural revolution which swept out the poor old baby with the bath-water. And I noticed that this process was particularly comprehensive in four specific aspects of life – in agriculture, architecture, medicine and education.
In all these disciplines, the relevance of anything that had gone before, that had been tried and tested and might conceivably be described as a “timeless principle”, was abandoned in an effort to cut all links with the past so that we could quite literally create a "brave new world" devoid of our “outmoded” tradition and the accumulated “detritus” of centuries.
As a result of all this, I happen to be concerned that there is a danger that we are creating a society in which children, wherever they come from, will have a diminishing chance to understand their place in history, the significance of the culture and ideas which they have inherited, the nature of their own identity, and the distinction between the good and the bad, the creative and the mediocre.
Now, for what it is worth – and to cut a long story short - you may perhaps have noticed that over the past 25 to 30 years, I have been consistently attempting to plead for a restoration of balance in these four areas of our existence; for bringing back the abandoned baby, but not necessarily the bath water, and for re-introducing that lost element of harmony between past and future which I think is the here and now – we can only live in the here and now.
So, in the field of education it seemed to me a particular tragedy that the crucial, shared link between generations – that "dialogue" which permits some kind of national, cultural and spiritual identity and an understanding of the values which underpin our pattern of liberal democracy – should be somewhat ruptured.
While I feel there is a crying need to offer many young people the chance to use their hands in practical ways, to develop vocational skills such as carpentry and plumbing and thereby to gain much more satisfaction and fulfilment, my concern this evening - I think yours at this summer school - is chiefly with the "intellectual" education debate.
From this point of view, it seems to me that many of those who leave school with good qualifications nevertheless have an education which is somewhat shallow-rooted; they lack valuable and essential knowledge, and understanding, about their national history and heritage. And, as a result, they find themselves devoid of that all important anchor when buffeted by the storms of life.
So this summer school, therefore, is intended to inspire all of you, I hope, as teachers of English and history who do value our culture - notwithstanding all the difficulties, pressures and limitations with which you have to contend - further to enrich your teaching despite the unavoidably narrow straitjacket of the examination system.
It seems to me that education should also be about preparing our young people to assume their responsibilities as future citizens, giving them an understanding of the spiritual dimensions of their lives and giving them access to the best aspects of their culture or - to put it another way - there is, I think, a growing feeling that children are not being encouraged in the appetite for knowledge which will stand them in good stead for the future.
We have to be ambitious in what we want to show young people they can do if we want them to be ambitious in turn: ambitious to understand, to read, to speak, to create, to use their collective inheritance to feed and articulate their individual wants and needs. The consequence of not doing so is that we end up with an entire generation of culturally disinherited young people.
So to feed and articulate your individual wants and needs, I thought you might appreciate hearing from the distinguished guest speakers whom I have asked to speak to you from their own particular experience and perspective.

"Damas y caballeros, siento interrumpir sus conversaciones, pero me gustaría comunicarles la gran emoción que siento de estar aquí esta tarde entre ustedes para inaugurar los “Cursos de Verano de Educación Príncipe de Gales”.
Me gustaría comenzar indicándoles que mi objetivo no es tanto imponer como facilitar ya que no creo ser el más indicado para decirles cómo llevar a cabo su labor profesional; pero como todo el mundo – y como cada padre – siempre he tenido mi opinión acerca de la excelencia que se ha alcanzado en educación en este país y los buenos estándares que ésta ha establecido.
Por consiguiente, asumiendo el posible riesgo de aburrirles hasta la saciedad, pensé que sería oportuno que les hablara brevemente sobre las razones por las que yo, de entre todas las posibles personas, he organizado unos cursos de verano para profesores de literatura inglesa e historia.
Veamos, creo que se remonta a mi adolescencia en la década de los sesenta cuando conscientemente fui testigo de lo que sólo ahora soy capaz de definir como una especie de revolución cultural, que al tratar de despojarse de todo lo malo, arrastró consigo lo bueno también. Me di cuenta de que este proceso fue especialmente exhaustivo en cuatro aspectos específicos de la vida: agricultura, arquitectura, medicina y educación.
En todas estas áreas se dejó a un lado la relevancia de todo lo que había acontecido anteriormente, de lo que había sido probado y demostrado, y que podría concebirse como una "verdad universal", en aras de cortar todos los cabos que nos ataban al pasado, de manera que se pudiera crear, como escribiera Aldous Huxley, "un mundo feliz" desprovisto de una tradición anticuada y el detrito acumulado durante siglos.
Como resultado de todo esto me preocupa que caigamos en el error de estar creando una sociedad en la que los niños, independientemente de su origen, tengan cada vez menos oportunidades de entender cuál es su lugar en la historia, cuál el significado de la cultura y las ideas que han heredado, cuál la naturaleza de su propia identidad y cuál la distinción entre el bien y el mal, entre lo creativo y lo mediocre.
Por consiguiente, y por la importancia que este tema tiene –y para resumir– es muy probable que hayan notado que durante los últimos 25 o 30 años he intentado abogar sistemáticamente por restaurar el equilibrio en estas cuatro áreas de nuestra existencia; para que se recupere lo bueno de nuestro pasado, sin necesariamente arrastrar lo malo de vuelta, y para retomar la armonía perdida entre el pasado y el futuro, que a mi entender es el aquí y el ahora –ya que sólo podemos vivir en el aquí y en el ahora.
De este modo, en el campo de la educación, me pareció especialmente una tragedia que se haya roto de alguna manera el importante vínculo de unión entre generaciones –ese "diálogo" que permite tener una especie de identidad nacional, cultural y espiritual y que permite comprender los valores en los que se sustenta nuestro modelo de democracia liberal.
Si bien siento que hay una necesidad perentoria de ofrecer a muchos jóvenes la oportunidad de aprender oficios manuales, de ofrecerles actividades profesionales como la carpintería o la fontanería para así permitirles que se sientan más satisfechos y realizados, mi interés esta noche aquí –y considero que el suyo también– es ante todo centrar el debate sobre el desarrollo intelectual en la educación.
Desde este punto de vista, me da la impresión de que aunque son muchos los que terminan la escuela con un buen expediente, lo hacen, sin embargo, con un educación un tanto superficial; carecen de conocimientos valiosos y esenciales, y del entendimiento de su historia nacional y herencia cultural. Como resultado, se encuentran desprovistos del ancla que les debiera sujetar cuando se vean azotados por los avatares de la vida.
Es por eso que esta escuela de verano tiene como objetivo servirles de inspiración a todos ustedes –espero- que, como profesores de literatura e historia, saben valorar nuestra cultura –a pesar de todas las dificultades, presión y limitaciones a las que se ven sometidos–, además de inspirarles a que, aunque inevitablemente sujetos a las normas del sistema de evaluación educativa, sigan enriqueciendo su modelo de enseñanza.
Tengo la sensación de que la educación debería consistir en preparar a nuestra juventud a asumir su responsabilidad como futuros ciudadanos, y a hacerles comprender las dimensiones espirituales de sus vidas además de darles acceso a los mejores aspectos de su propia cultura o, dicho de otro modo, creo que hay un consenso cada vez más extendido de que a los niños no se les está guiando a tener sed de conocimientos que les resultarán enormemente útiles en el futuro.
Debemos ser ambiciosos en lo que queremos que aprendan los jóvenes si pretendemos que, a su vez, ellos también sean ambiciosos: ambiciosos para entender, leer, hablar, crear, utilizar su herencia colectiva para enriquecer y articular sus necesidades y deseos individuales. Como consecuencia de no hacerlo, acabaríamos con una generación de jóvenes desheredados culturalmente.
Así pues, para enriquecer y articular las necesidades y deseos de los aquí presentes, pensé que agradecerían escuchar distintas ponencias de distinguidos oradores a los que he invitado para que compartan con ustedes su propia experiencia y perspectivas.
