Anyone else, other than me, irritated by those job postings that are placed and closed without even showing in the listing? And, to make it even worse, you get the notification after the deadline has passed!
This is what I have been experiencing lately and frequently. Jobs that are placed without me being able to see them in the listing, and then they get closed without me getting the chance to bid on them! I filed a support ticket, and the explanation I got was that:
ProZ demands certain changes to be made to the postings, and until such changes are in place the posting remains unviewable.
So, here is a funny example:
posted: 17 Dec 2013 2:10pm EET (GMT+2)
closed: 22 Dec 2013 2:00pm EET (GMT+2)
notified: 24 Dec 2013 3:20pm EET (GMT+2)
>>>Remember, the job was UNSEEN!

I hope this explains.

I hope you understand why I'm concerned.
The main reason I got the paid membership was to further my income opportunities, but what good will that paid membership be if I can't see the projects and bid on them!
Thanks again, and have a nice holiday. | | | Bidding is not the only way. | Dec 25, 2013 |
When I was new to Proz, I could not understand why I was not notified about two thirds of new projects. They explained me that one can only get a notification if one meets all the requirements (specific fields, country, tools, etc.). After several years of being a ProZ member, I don't rely on these notifications, because there are other ways to get an interesting project (some clients contact ProZ members directly). | |

Dear Natalia,
Thanks a lot for your comment.
On one hand, I totally accept your point of view.
On the other hand, I have got to say that notification isn't my main concern; it is rather the fact that a job was posted and closed without me being able to see and bid on, since it was invisible.

Most of the time, I do regularly check the job listing to view the new projects. So, whether notified or not, I can reach the job posting directly through the listing. But, if the job posting is hidden during its activity period, then how exactly I'm supposed to make an offer or, otherwise, contact the outsourcer!
It's fine that ProZ would ask for changes to be made to the posting, but why start counting down to deadline when they didn't yet enable viewing of such posting!
It would make more sense to start counting down to deadline only after they have made the posting viewable by members. ▲ Collapse | | | DZiW (X) ইউক্রেন ইংরেজি থেকে রাশিয়ান + ... just a mishap | Dec 26, 2013 |
Hello Sadek, I'm pretty sure that Karen is right it was just a 'technical' issue, however ProZ should really reconsider its policy regarding vetting/approving such 'belated' non-offers: You've paid and feel disappointed? A really bad combination. Why disappointing their clients? It's a big no-no for any biz)

I was lucky enough to be a 'privileged' free user, so I encountered the policy evolution at ProZ, which made free user accounts almost useless and, ultimately, almost completely useless--I have nothing to complaint about. Yet I do hope such a vivid example of such a translators' palladium won't get into 'low baiting', unlike some other resources which often give fake job ads.
Cheers

Dear DZiW,
Thanks for your comment.
It is totally understandable that not all jobs will be awarded to a single translator; so, it isn't really that I didn't win that specific job, but that I didn't get the chance to try and win it, is actually what bothers me the most!
Needless to say that if ProZ ever becomes one of these resources you mentioned, I will immediately give up on the paid membership thing. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » For bidding, but UNSEEN :( CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
