Different "worthy causes" Dec 20, 2011

I go with most of the entries before stating that it does'nt have to be about money. There are so many different little things we can do in daily life.
I supported a local church within the frame of a bible week for children and "spent" more than half of my weekly working time for this.
Plus, I ordered Christmas cards for my clients. With each card I ordered, a certain amount of money will be spent to an organisation working with children suffering from cancer.

Maybe these are all just little things but I think that it's just these little things that make a difference.

Merry Xmas to all of you.

www.self.org Dec 20, 2011

Personally, I don't like giving donations to large charities, because I know from my time in Africa that very often these organizations spend far too much money on the organization itself rather than on the people in need.

That is why I prefer to donate to smaller organizations. One example is SELF (Solar Electric Light Fund), an NGO that installs solar panels in villages that have no electricity. The organization is run by a friend of mine, so I know 100% sure that my money is wel

And of course, I do support Wikipedia...

Friedensdorf International Dec 20, 2011

I must admit that I don't donate regularly. This year however, I supported a friend who crossed the Alps by bike together with his almost 80-year-old father in order to raise funds for Friedensdorf International: https://www.friedensdorf.de/Spenden-Beispielhafte-Aktionen.html?news=1431

And just one comment:

Mario Chavez wrote:

Seriously, pollster, who are you to ask such a personal question? Bloody rude, if you ask me.

Not as rude as your reply, in my opinion. You are not obliged to participate or to share your financial circumstances, are you?

CSR Dec 20, 2011

I remember my dismay when CSR began to be an issue for large companies. As a small company (v small!) we had always donated both money and time/skills to a wide variety of charities, but there was never the need to make a song and dance about it. I remember my dismay when CSR began to be an issue for large companies. As a small company (v small!) we had always donated both money and time/skills to a wide variety of charities, but there was never the need to make a song and dance about it. But social and other trends have now made it necessary - if we don't it looks as if we not doing what is considered an obligation in company activity terms, as opposed to, as I see it, in moral terms. What should go without saying has to be waved in our clients' faces. I feel this is almost exploitation of the organizations we are trying to help, but then, if it brings them more money and aid, well, all to the good.

When it comes to donating money, we always do it through an official channel (ie bank account to NGO's account) thereby taking advantage of tax breaks, meaning we can afford to donate more.

Additional comment:

btw, I have no issue with the question - it's giving us a great chance to showcase our favourite ONGs and charitable activities, as well as having a "feel good" component (and we deserve this) - it's just that the whole corporate social responsibility question has been bugging me for some years now.
